A workshop, office and asphalt plant for BMR Quarries at Westdale - a site that grew from a workshop and office in 2005 to take in a 1.2 hectare asphalt plant.
BMR Quarries is a family owned and operated company that supplies and delivers crushed rock and other raw materials for construction, on time, within budget and to specification. The business began trading in 2005, the same year Segboer Constructions completed the first stage of its site at Westdale for Crowe Properties.
From its Tamworth base, BMR supplies road bases, crusher dust, aggregates, fill and rock for armour, gabion and mattress work, and hires out mobile screening and crushing equipment and other plant. Its customers include private clients, mining companies, councils and state and federal government agencies.
That first stage was a workshop and office facing Ponda Rosa Road. Over the years the site grew, taking in two more parcels of adjoining land and connecting through to the larger Phoenix Road property, which became a 1.2 hectare asphalt plant.
The aim throughout was a purpose-built base that could keep pace with a growing business, with room for the workshop, the office and, in time, the asphalt plant, all on connected land.
The first stage, completed in 2005, was a 450 square metre workshop and a 75 square metre office. As the business grew, Segboer Constructions went on to build the asphalt plant on the Phoenix Road property, a site covering 1.2 hectares.
Building an industrial site in stages calls for planning ahead, so each stage sat properly alongside the last and left room for the next. Working with the same builder from the first workshop onwards meant the site came together as one connected property rather than a series of separate jobs.
Each stage was built to suit what the business needed at the time, which is how a workshop and office became a full industrial site. Across the workshop, office and asphalt plant, the project came to around $3.2 million, including $1.8 million for the plant.
The result is a working industrial site that has grown with the business, from a workshop and office on Ponda Rosa Road to a 1.2 hectare asphalt plant connected through to Phoenix Road. It gives BMR Quarries a purpose-built base for its day-to-day work, with the space and facilities to support a family business supplying materials to private customers, councils, mining companies and government projects.
