A precast and steel retail store for Supercheap Auto on a prominent Goonoo Goonoo Road corner in Tamworth - built in 1995 and extended in 2023 to 1,070 square metres.
Supercheap Auto is a specialty automotive parts and accessories retailer operating across Australia and New Zealand, with a wide range of tools and accessories, plus products for travel, touring, outdoors, the garage and the shed.
The Tamworth store sits on a 2,500 square metre site on a prominent corner of Goonoo Goonoo Road, one of the main roads into the CBD, surrounded by the Longyard retail precinct. The aim was a purpose-built store with good visibility from the road and easy access for customers.
Segboer Constructions built the store in precast and steel construction, completing the first stage in 1995 with an 800 square metre footprint. In 2023 the building was expanded by a further 270 square metres, taking it to 1,070 square metres.
A store like this needs to work for everyday customers and for deliveries, so the building was planned around easy access and a practical layout. Precast and steel gave a durable shell, and it has been able to grow with the business, with the 2023 extension fitting onto the original building.
The result is a purpose-built retail store on a prominent corner site that has served the business for nearly three decades and grew from 800 to 1,070 square metres in 2023. It's a good example of a building made to last, and made to grow.
